BUSINESS NORTH WEST TO HOST "THE GREAT GREEN DEBATE"
The question of how SMEs can compete in an increasingly sustainability conscious market will be tackled in a series of live debates to be held at the Business North West event (Manchester Central, 28-29 October). The debates will bring together panels of experts in the fields of sustainability and business who will respond to questions from the local business community.
The ‘Great Green Debate’ aims to explore the key issue of sustainability and business in the light of growing evidence that consumers, as well as businesses, are increasingly looking for greater levels of sustainability from their suppliers and partners. However, SMEs are the least likely group to have a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or environmental policy in place. This is putting SMEs at a competitive disadvantage when compared to larger businesses that have the resources to develop advanced CSR and environmental policies, and the budgets to aggressively market themselves as ‘green’.
Speaking about the Great Green Debate, Scott Hider, MD of Nationwide Media Group which organises the annual Business North West event says; “We have introduced a ‘Sustainable Hub’ to Business North West this year because the issue of sustainability is becoming increasingly critical to all businesses. In many cases legislation is helping to drive a culture of ‘buying green’, but consumers and businesses are also consciously choosing to ‘buy green’. The Great Green Debate and the Sustainable Hub will focus on the business realities and problems faced by companies looking to make themselves more attractive, and will offer solutions and advice on how they can develop sustainable strategies.
“Business North West has become a major business-to-business event in the area and an essential date in the diary of a growing number of north west businesses. The event has been tailored to support the local business community and this year’s event has already attracted a record number of rebooking from exhibitors.”
The Great Green Debate will take place at 13:30 – 14:30 in the Innovation Lounge at Business North West on both Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October. Panellists will include representatives from the business community and government.
